GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team received national honors on Monday as the program was selected the STATS Perform National Team of the Week.

The Tigers had lost eight of their previous nine games, but pulled off a surprising 37-28 victory over the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions, Alabama A&M, on Saturday at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium. GSU erased a 14-0 deficit with 34 unanswered points between the second and fourth quarters.

Noah Bodden, who made his first collegiate start at quarterback, tossed three touchdown passes and the defense forced Alabama A&M's Aqeel Glass into five turnovers.

The Grambling State victory beat out other nominees, including Howard's win over Sacred Heart and Stephen F. Austin's loss to Sam Houston State.

Grambling State (2-3 overall, 1-1 SWAC) return to action on Saturday to face off against Alcorn State at Jack Spinks Stadium in Lorman, Miss. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
