GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Trayvean Scott, announced on Friday the addition of Ventric Fletcher as the Assistant AD for Athletic Academic Services.

"We're very pleased to welcome Ventric Fletcher into the Grambling family," Scott said. "His background and expertise make him a perfect fit for our department. Ventric has had great success academically at his previous institutions and I'm confident that he will continue that tradition while also further enhancing the academic environment for our student-athletes."

Prior to coming to Grambling State, Fletcher served as the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Support Services at Southern University.

In his role at Southern, Fletcher was responsible for overseeing academic support services for the men's basketball program and at-risk student-athletes, while also assisting with compliance functions and the daily operation of the Academic Center. He returned to collegiate athletics — and Southern University — after spending nearly two years as a Consultant and Educator in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Fletcher is a well-traveled and accomplished Academic Student-Athlete Development professional. From 2016-2018, he served as Academic Counselor for Football at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi.

Prior to his tenure with the Bulldogs, Fletcher served as Senior Academic Counselor and Learning Specialist for men's basketball and football at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While in New Orleans, he served as the Department's liaison to the University Academic Advising Center and was a member of the Tulane Life Skills Committee.

From 2011-2015, Fletcher was a member of the Southern University staff, serving in two different capacities. From 2013-2015 he served the Department of Athletics as Director of Academics and Life Skills. In this role, he coordinated all academic advising, learning services, and life skills development for the Department of Athletics. Prior to his appointment to this position, he was the Lead Academic Advisor in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, wherein he served student-athletes and College of Government and Social Science students.

Nationally, Fletcher has gained a reputation as a hardworking and dedicated administrator. He has been selected to serve as a facilitator for the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum on three separate occasions, has attended the Leadership Development department's Life Skills Symposium several times, and is active in MOAA, N4A, and NAAC. He has also served as a presenter at the NCAA Accelerated Academic Success Program and as a guest speaker and facilitator at the University of Memphis. He is also a published author, co-authoring a chapter in the recently adopted textbook Effective Practices for Minority-Serving Institution: Beyond a Deficit Framing of Leadership.

Fletcher earned his undergraduate and graduate degree from Southern University and A&M College in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Additionally, he has earned the NAAC Compliance Certification (2015), the N4A Individual Certification (2015), completed the Athlete Development Professional Certification Program at The Wharton School — University of Pennsylvania (2016), the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certification from the University of South Florida, and is a member of the latest cohort of the NCAA's Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute.
