Box Score GRAMBLING, La. | The Lady Tigers softball team survived a tight contest in thrilling fashion as Nyah Jones produced a walk-off double as Grambling defeated Jarvis Christian 6-5 in extra innings (8) at the GSU Softball Complex in non-conference action.

"We were excited to get back on the diamond for our first handful of games for the first time since March when COVID-19 cut our season short," said Grambling State head softball coach Nakeya Hall. "But being back at our home field in front of our fans and supporters was a different type of excitement. Having a home field advantage in those types of games really benefits your team. The game atmosphere coupled with the thrilling fashion in which we won, is truly an amazing feeling," Hall explained.

The Lady Tigers trailed 1-0 after the top of the first before scoring two runs in the second. The back and forth battle continued as the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the third to tie the game at 4-4 after Grambling added one in the second.

Jarvis Christian regained the lead with a run in the fourth before the Lady Tigers responded with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but gave up a run in the final inning of the game as the Lady Bulldogs forced extra innings.

Pitcher JaLynn Bonner earned a win over Jarvis Christian in Gramblings home opener.

Ja'Lynn Bonner picked up the win for the Lady Tigers and struck out six Lady Bulldogs batters while giving up five hits and three runs in three innings of action.

Teammate and fellow pitcher Dacia Richard came in for relief in the fourth and pitched just over four innings, nearly matching her fellow Lady Tiger with five strikeouts of her own. She gave up just three hits and two runs and helped seal the deal with solid pitching in extra innings.

Redshirt sophomore first baseman Antiya Randle led GSU with three runs, two hits and eight putouts.

"We look to build off of this victory and take the same energy into our game tomorrow against the University of Louisiana Monroe," Coach Hall stated.
