Box Score GULFPORT, Miss. | The Grambling State Lady Tigers fell 11-0 in five innings to Alabama State in the opening round of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament at the Gulfport Sportsplex. The original 9 a.m. start was delayed due to inclement weather and pushed back to 5 p.m.
Grambling's (13-17 overall) offense struggled on the afternoon and simply could not generate its usual mix of power hitting and solid base running against a solid Lady Hornets team that was the last squad to win a SWAC softball championship. GSU managed just two hits on the day that came from
India Wells and
Cameron Ellis respectively.
The Lady Hornets produced an 8-run inning in the third, including a gram slam to close the door.
GSU pitcher and SWAC Second-team selection
Payton Shells (6-5) was credited with the loss as she allowed12 hits while striking out one Lady Hornet batter.
