Grambling, La | Grambling State baseball (15-25, 12-9 SWAC) suffered a pair of losses in Sunday's doubleheader with UAPB (8-30, 8-14 SWAC) at Wilbert Ellis Field. The Tigers first fell, 8-9, in game two before a 19-8 loss in game three of the series.
Game 1: GSU 9, UAPB 8
Grambling fell, 8-9, to UAPB in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
UAPB got on the board first with a run in the first and second inning. The Golden Lions then added a total of seven runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning. Grambling scored in the first inning and posted a pair of runs in the second inning. The Tigers also poured in a total of five runs in the fourth and fifth inning.
In the first inning, Grambling got on the board thanks to a
Jeremy Almaguer sacrifice fly. Almaguer brought in
Cameron Bufford, who reached with one down on an error by the shortstop. (1-1)

Cameron Phelts sending a shot down the right field line to hustle for an RBI triple to tie the game.

Phelts remained hot at the plate, as he hit a base knock to begin the bottom of the fourth.

Joseph Gunn was intentionally walked and Senior Rafael Ramirez walked to make the bases loaded for the Tigers with
Ben Avila on deck. Avila grounded out to retire the inning. (6-2, Grambling)
Cameron Phelts walloped a double RBI to right field to record another hit in the fifth inning. UAPB encountered difficulties at the plate which resulted in three pitching changes in the inning and the Tigers were able to plate another run. (8-2, Grambling)
The Tigers were able to keep the Golden Lions scoreless for four innings before UAPB plated three runs in the seventh, two runs in the eighth, and two in the ninth to secure the win, 9-8.

Game 2: GSU 9, UAPB 18
The Tigers suffered an 18-9 loss in game three of Saturday's twin bill.
UAPB used twenty-one hits to secure the series-clinching win.
The Golden Lions used eight hits, including two RBI triples, to post seven runs in the first inning to begin the contest carrying over their momentum from game two.
Grambling attempted to rally back after a tough first inning to begin game three by plating two runs in the first, two runs in the second, one run in the third, one run in the fourth, and three runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as UAPB was able to plate runs in seven out of the nine innings in the contest to claim the series.
"This was a tough pill to swallow for our seniors, losing their last home series of their college career," head coach
James Cooper said. "We have to put this one behind us and focus on our next opponent which is DBU. Facing someone like DBU should really get us prepared for championship play in the tournament."
