Box Score GRAMBLING, La. | The Lady Tigers trailed 3-0 early in the contest, but stormed back for a 6-4 victory over Texas Southern at the GSU Softball Complex. The competition was a make-up game from earlier in the season while the victory marks the 10th conference win of the season for the Lady Tigers.
Texas Southern took an early lead in the first inning on a 2-RBI triple from Julia Bilbao, but Grambling responded in the bottom stanza with a run from speedster
India Wells, who took advantage of an error from TSU's second baseman who launched a throw home that sailed yards over the catcher's head, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
In the third inning, GSU's Anaiya Fultz produced a sacrifice fly-RBI to right field which brought home
Tyra Triplett. An arrant throw home allowed Wells to even the score at 3-3.
The Lady Tigers (13-16 overall, 10-8 SWAC) took the lead for good in the fourth inning on a double steal when
Asli Strozier stole second, allowing
Morgan Adams to score on another error from TSU's catcher. Wells and
Cameron Ellis would later add insurance runs for the Lady Tigers to seal the deal.
GSU pitcher
Ja'Lynn Bonner allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out one TSU batter in 3.0 innings of work before fellow Lady Tiger
Janecia King (1-0) entered in relief work, allowing just four hits and one earned run with a strikeout in 3.0 innings on the mound.
Teammate
Taylor Polk was credited with the save while King earned the win for Grambling.
