Grambling State Drops Nail-Biter to Texas Southern at Home

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday evening at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center, falling late to Texas Southern, 67-61. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Texas Southern (3-8 overall, 1-1 SWAC) raced out to a 10-5 lead following a jumper by Jordan Gilliam with 17:01 remaining in the opening half
- Grambling State (4-11, 1-1) inched back to tie the game at 12-12 with a layup by Quentin Murrell at the 13:10 mark
- GSU grabbed a four-point lead, 16-12 following a pari of free throws from Cameron Christon.
- John Walker III put Texas Southern back in front, 21-20, with a three pointer with 6:28 to go in the first half.
- The Black and Gold tied the game two more times before going into halftime trailing Texas Southern, 34-29
- Grambling State opened the second half going on an 16-7 run to push ahead of Texas Southern, leading by as much as nine, 52-43, with 10:59 to play
- Texas Southern fought back, tying the game at 58 with 2:27 remaining in regulation
- GSU couldn't fend off TSU, as Texas Southern finished the game on a 9-3 to secure the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State shot 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the floor and 73.7 percent (14-for-19) from the free-throw line
Zahad Munford led for GSU putting up 13 points and one rebound
- Cameron Christon recorded 12 points, three rebounds and one assist
Tra'Michael Moton posted 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists
- AJ Taylor registered 11 points, ten rebounds and one assist
- The Tigers recorded 26 points in the paint, 12 bench points, 19 fast-break points, nine points off 13 Texas Southern turnovers and nine second-chance points
- Texas Southern shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the field and 71 percent (22-of-31) from the charity stripe
- PJ Henry led the way for the TSU Tigers, posting 16 points, one rebound and one assist
- Texas Southern tallied 24 points in the paint, 30 bench points, 14 fast-break points, 14 points off of 13 Grambling State turnovers and four second-chance points

The Tigers travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to face-off against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. EST.
