TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Ruth Kibet finished third in the women's 5000m, while Mathias Chemboi paced eighth in the men's 8000m to highlight the Grambling State University men's and women's cross country teams during Monday's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park.
Kibet crossed the line in 19:47.0 to claim fourth during the women's race, while Chemboi logged a time of 26:41.3 to earn eighth during the men's race.
WOMEN'S RESULTSÂ
- Grambling State finished tied for second with 108 points
- Bethune-Cookman won the championship with 90 points
- Alcorn State, with two of the top two finishers, placed tied for second with 108 points
- Alabama State finished fourth with 137 points, while Jackson State claimed fifth with 147 points
- Alabama A&M (157), Prairie View A&M (158), Florida A&M (159), Southern (162), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (185), Texas Southern (193) and Mississippi Valley State (296) rounded out the 12-team field
HOW THEY FARED – WOMENÂ
- Ruth Kibet led the Lady Tigers by placing fourth, with a time of 19:47.0
- Sharon Laibich finished right behind Kibet in fifth, logging a time of 19:50.1
- Marcy Kwambai placed 12th, with a time of 20:54.5
- Lillian Thuo became the fourth runner inside the Top 20, placing 15th, with a time of 21:12.0
- Sascha Greene placed 70th to round out the individual runners
WOMEN'S ALL-SWAC
MEN'S RESULTS
- Grambling State claimed ninth with 232 points
- Jackson State won the championship with 43 points
- Texas Southern finished second with 56 points, followed by Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 81 points
- Bethune-Cookman (121), Southern (144), Prairie View A&M (147), Alabama State (164) and Alcorn State (190) wrapped up the top eight spots
- Mississippi Valley State placed 10th with 244 points
HOW THEY FARED – MENÂ
- Mathias Cheboi, who got as high as sixth, led the pack of Grambling State runners, finishing eighth in 26:41.3
- Miciah Myles placed 54th, with a time of 32:54.4
- Devin Malone crossed the line in 57th, logging a time of 34:34.8
- Anthony Davis (62nd) and Dante Montaque (63rd) wrapped up the scoring for the Tigers
