GSU Soccer Suffers Heartbreak in SWAC Title Game

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Grambling State University women's soccer team scored a last second goal in regulation to send the game into extra time, but couldn't fend off Jackson State, falling 4-2 in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at PVAMU Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jackson State (11-7-2 overall, 7-1-1 swap) jumped in front first on a goal by Kendyl Terrell in 26th minute.
  • JSU added another goal in the 47th minute on a soccer by Alexes Sanchez to move in front 2-0.
  • Grambling State (12-8-3, 5-1-3) kicked into gear late in the second half when Lizbeth Aguero beat JSU goalkeeper in the 86th minute, trimming Jackson State's advantage to 2-1.
  • The game reached high-drama in the 89th minute, as Laila Loring received a corner kick from Aria Whitney, heading the ball into the net, sending the match into extras.
  • However, GSU was unable to contain JSU in the extra period as the Grambling State surrendered two goals
