Tigers fall in final minutes to FAMU

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State men's basketball team dropped a 79-73 thriller to Florida A&M in the final minutes at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center Saturday afternoon. All five starters scored in double figures for the Tigers.

Prince Moss registered 16 points, five rebounds and one steal. Cameron Christon scored 14 points, three assists, seven rebounds, two steals and one block. Shawndarius Cowart and A'Mari McCray each racked up 12 points and one steal. Tra'Michael Moton recorded 10 points, seven assists and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State (11-16, 9-6) opened the game with a statement as Prince Moss showcased his vertical with a monster dunk to put the Tigers on the board first at the 19:02 minute mark
-The Tigers took an 11-3 lead with a three-pointer by Shawndarius Cowart with 15:03 in the first half
-Florida A&M (12-15, 10-6) tied the game at 15 with a three from Jalen Speer at the 10:30 mark
-The Rattlers carried a 12-point lead over the Tigers, 38-26, into the half
-The Tigers cut back at the deficit as Tra'Michael scored on a layup making it 42-33 at the 17:59 mark
-Prince Moss went straight to the basket for two bringing the Tigers within four of the Rattlers, 53-49, with 9:55 left in regulation
-FAMU began to run away with the game leading by 11 points, 70-59, with 4:29 left in the second half
-Prince Moss hit a game-changing three with 2:53 left to play that put the Tigers within three points of Florida A&M, 72-69
-With 1:00 remaining in the game, A'Mari McCray scored on a layup putting Grambling State within arm's reach of FAMU, 74-73
-The Rattlers went on a 6-0 run to close out and escape with the 79-73 victory 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68) from the field and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free throw line
-The Tigers finished with 42 points the paint, nine bench points, 16 points off of 14 FAMU turnovers, four fastbreak points and 12 second-chance points
Florida A&M shot 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from the field and 85.7 percent (24-of-28) from the free throw line
-M.J. Randolph led the way for the Rattlers scoring 18 points, five rebounds and five assists
-Bryce Moragne registered 16 points, nine rebounds and one assist
-Jalen Speer recorded 14 points, two assists and one rebound
-The Rattlers recorded 16 points in the paint, 14 bench points, 12 points off of 12 GSU turnovers, four fastbreak points and two second-chance points

UP NEXT
The Tigers return to Willis Reed Court on Monday to host Bethune-Cookman in their final home game of the season. Grambling State will showcase a special Black History month collaboration Adidas uniform. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
