Lorman, Miss.| The Grambling State University softball team dropped its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Alcorn State over the weekend. The Lady Tigers lost all three games 11-3, 8-2 and 6-0.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State (12-12, 2-5 SWAC) opened the game scoring two runs in the top of the first inning as Tytianna Robinson crushed a two-run RBI to left-center giving GSU a 2-0 lead
-Alcorn State (9-18, 2-5 SWAC) came back in the bottom of the second inning the lead as the Lady Braves scored five runs
-Alcorn State scored another run in the bottom of the third as Amari Ramsey singled in the infield scoring Tyesha Cole
-The Lady Braves outscored Grambling State 5-1 over the next four innings to walk away with an 11-3 victory
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with six hits, three runs and no errors
-Alcorn State finished with 17 hits, 11 runs and one error
-Dacia Richard and Sherrell Matthews (4-2) led the Lady Tigers on the mound as Matthews suffered the loss for GSU
-Lexi Veamoi (1-0) took the victory for the Lady Braves recording her first
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Alcorn State (10-18, 3-5 SWAC) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning as Tyesha Cole scored on an infield hit
-Grambling State (12-13, 2-6 SWAC) didn't respond until the top of the fifth India Wells got on base and Morgan Adams came across the plate
-Alcorn scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-1 lead over GSU
-India Wells scored on a wild pitch for the Lady Tigers, but it wasn't enough to keep the momentum going as Grambling State fell 8-2
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with six hits, two runs and one error
-Alcorn State finished with nine hits, eight runs and four errors
-Payton Shells (1-3) took the loss on the mound for GSU
-Kiri Parker (4-3) walked away with the win for Alcorn State
GAME 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Alcorn State (11-18, 4-5 SWAC) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning taking a 3-0 lead
-The Lady Braves scored again in the bottom of the third as Tyesha Cole singled to centerfield scoring two more run
-Grambling State (12-14, 2-7 SWAC) went scoreless in game three as Alcorn State sealed the 6-0 victory and the series sweep
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with four hits and one error
-Alcorn State finished with 10 hits, six runs and no errors
-Janecia King (0-2) took the loss on the mound for the Lady Tigers allowing seven hits, five runs and one walk in three innings
-Ja'Lynn Bonner pitched one inning and allowed one run, one hit and two walks
-Taylor Polk threw for two innings allowing two hits in seven at bats
-Brenn Ursin took the win for Alcorn State only allowing four hits in seven innings and recording five strikeouts
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers will travel to Holly Springs, Miss. for a doubleheader against Rust College on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for noon.
