Monfries and Labich Claim Victories at Southern Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. | Alexavier Monfries returned to the track to turn in a top time in the 400m, while Sharon Labich continued her dominance in the 800m as the Grambling State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams took the track on Saturday at the Southern Miss Invitational at the Marshall Bell Track Complex. 

Monfries bested the field by nearly one second, clocking a time of 47.65 to win the 400m. Meanwhile, Labich, who won the 800m at the PVAMU Relays a week ago, won the event on Saturday, with a time of 2:15.51 

WOMEN'S NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 
- In the shot put, Aneisha Bell claimed ninth, witha. toss of 11.71m 
- Ivory Davis finished sixth in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 14.77 
- Kyla Blockett recorded a sixth-place finish, with a time of 12.15, in the 100m dash 
- Besides Labich claiming the top spot in the 800m, Mercy Kwambai finished eighth, with a time of 2:26.35 

MEN'S NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 
- In the long jump, Tyson Duncan placed sixth, with a leap of 6.51m 
- Mathias Cheboi finished fourth in the 5,000m, clocking a time of 15:52.44 
- Michiah Myles placed 10th in the 800, with a time of 1:57.72 
- Aryamanua Rogers just missed the top spot in the steeplechase, taking second, with a time of 10:30

Grambling State returns to action on April 9 in Nacogdoches, Texas at the Carl Knight Invitational.
