MONROE, La.| The Grambling State University softball team fell in its mid-week doubleheader at the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Tigers had a chance to split the doubleheader until a seventh inning walk-off sealed the game two victory for ULM.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Louisiana-Monroe (24-20, 9-12 Sun Belt) jumped on the board first scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning
-The Warhawks scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning taking a 7-0 lead over GSU
-Grambling State (21-19, 8-10 SWAC) scored at the top of the fourth on a perfectly executed first and third play as Antiya Randle got caught in a run-down allowing Kaytlyn Moore to score
-The deficit was too large for the Lady Tigers to stage a comeback as ULM went on to take the 9-1 victory in five innings
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with one hit, one run and two errors
-ULM recorded seven hits, nine runs and two errors
-Ja'Lynn Bonner (1-3) registered the loss for GSU pitching two innings and allowing one hit, three runs and two errors
-Kinsey Kackley (9-7) took the win pitching five innings and allowing only one hit, one run and striking out 11 batters
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State got on the board in the top of the third inning taking a 3-0 lead as Tytianna Robinson blasted a three-run RBI triple to right-center scoring Kaytlyn Moore, India Wells and Kaylee Nettles
-Louisiana-Monroe returned in the bottom of the third scoring one run as GSU held on to a 3-1 lead
-ULM came up big in the bottom of the sixth inning tying the game at three with a two-run RBI double from Kennedy Johnson
-The Warhawks walked off in the bottom of the seventh as Alexis Chavez singled through the left side scoring Taylor Broddick to take the 4-3 victory
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with four hits, three runs and two errors
-ULM finished with seven hits, four runs and one error
-Adrianna Chavarria (5-6) took the win on the rubber pitching four innings and allowing one hit while striking out eight batters
-Dacia Richard (3-7) took the loss throwing six innings and allowing seven hits and three errors
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers will travel to Prairie View, Texas to face off with Prairie View A&M Friday and Saturday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
