BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced seedings and opening round match-ups for the upcoming 2022 SWAC Softball Tournament slated for May 10-13 (May 14th if necessary) at the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Bethune-Cookman clinched the Eastern Division #1 seed after completing regular season play with a 17-7 league record.
Alabama State claimed the #2 seed followed by #3 seed Florida A&M. Jackson State claimed the #4 seed rounding out the teams from the Eastern Division that claimed tournament berths.
In the Western Division Texas Southern claimed the #1 seed after completing regular season play with a 21-3 conference record which marked the most wins of any team in league play.
Prairie View A&M claimed the #2 seed while Grambling State enters the tournament as the West #3 seed. Southern clinched the #4 seed in the Western Division wrapping up the Western Division teams to clinch spots in the tournament.
Bethune-Cookman will face Southern in the opening round of tournament action. Texas Southern will square off against Jackson State, while Alabama State will open the tournament versus Grambling State. Prairie View A&M will take on Florida A&M completing the list of first round match-ups.
The tournament will be played in a double-elimination format with action set to start at 9:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday, May 10th with games slated to run through May 13th. If necessary the final tournament championship game has been scheduled for Saturday, May 14th. All tournament games will be available live on the SWAC Digital Network.
