GRAMBLING, La. | With less than a month away from the return of the Shreveport Classic, a press conference has been announced for 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 18 at the Independence Bowl Stadium in Shreveport, La. as Grambling State head football coach Hue Jackson and Northwestern State's Brad Laird will be in attendance.
The Shreveport Classic, which was also known as the Red River State Fair Classic, began in 1911 and hasn't been played since 2016.
Grambling State has played in 19 games, compiling a 15-3-1 record, while Northwestern State will be making its 63 appearance, sporting an 18-41-3 mark. Meanwhile, the matchup will also mark just the sixth time these two teams will meet, as GSU holds a slim, 3-2, all-time series lead.
A kickoff time was also announced for the Saturday, September 10 game as the two teams will meet under the lights at the Independence Bowl. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Grambling State is the designated home team for the contest and fans can purchase tickets at www.gsutigers.com or by clicking here. In addition, fans will have the option for prepaid parking or reserved tailgate space (or RV hookups) at the Independence Bowl Stadium.
Season tickets for the 2022 Grambling State football season, which features games against Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M (State Fair Classic), Florida A&M, Alcorn State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Homecoming), are currently on sale by visiting the GSU Ticket Office or by calling 318.274.2629.
Grambling State opens the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Arkansas State. Kickoff from Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark. Is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
