GSU Track & Field Performs Well at Rod Cravey Memorial Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. | The Grambling State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams wrapped up a weekend of competition in Rod Cravey Memorial meet hosted by the University of Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Fieldhouse. The Tigers turned in several strong performances to jump start the indoor portion of their schedule.

Day 1

On the women's side, freshman Jamie Richardson turned in one of the strongest finishes of the day, placing third in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.70m. She finished just behind Amaya Ugarte of Ohio State (1.78m) and Mallory Mullen of Kentucky (1.74m).

In the women's weight throw, Jordan Wyatt placed 17th, but posted a personal best 12.78m.

Kyla Blockett qualified for the 60m dash semifinals with a 7.72 in the preliminaries. Ivory Davis paced the Lady Tigers in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.96 to also qualify for Saturday's semifinal.

For the men, Anthony Davis turned in an eighth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.80m. 

Christian Lewis led the way for Grambling State in the 60m, qualifying for the finals clocking in at 7.01. Kimani Gadner also made it to the semifinals with a time of 7.06. Three Tigers qualified for the 60m hurdles finals. Freshman Dakari Betts paced GSU qualifying seventh with a time of 8.82. Rainey Anderson (8.44) and Anthony Davis (8.90) were the other qualifiers.

Christian Lewis (7.41m) and Lawrence Lambert (7.12m) registered an impressive results in the men's long jump, finishing second and fifth respectively. 

Day 2

Dior Nicholson turned in a top 10 finish in the women's shot put. She landed in ninth place with a throw of 12.38m

Kyla Blockett raced to a 16th place finish in the women's 60m semis, while Ivory Davis wrapped up 17th place in the women's 60m semifinals. 

In men's action, Dakari Betts continued to showcase his strength in the 60m hurdles, earning a spot in the finals. He ended up getting disqualified with a false start in the final round. Anthony Davis' weekend concluded with a 14th place finish in the semifinals. 

Christian Lewis raced to 12th place in the semifinals of the 60m dash. Kimani Gardner locked up 17th.
