BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Grambling State University track & field teams turned in several solid finishes competing in the Samford University Open at the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday afternoon.
The GSU women turned in several top five finishes on Saturday.
Kyla Blockett built off of last week's momentum performing well in the women's 60 meter dash. After blazing her way through the preliminaries and semifinals, she posted a personal best 7.66 to grab fourth place in the event.
Sharon Laibich registered fifth place in 800m, clocking in at 2:24.92.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of Amari Wrightsill, Sharon Laibich, Ivory Davis and Kyla Blockett sped to fourth place with a time of 3:54.45, just behind Southern (3.54.36), Hinds Community College (3:52.27) and Alabama State (3:50.35).
Wrightsill narrowly missed a top 10 placing in the 200 meter dash, turning in a time of 25.85.
In the women's high jump, the Lady tigers had two participants land in the the top five. Jamie Richardson earned second place with a leap of 1.65m. Pearl moss picked up fifth place, jumping 1.55m. In the triple jump, Serena Jimmerson also notched fifth place with a mark of 10.87m.
Dior Nicholson continued to be a force in the shot put, coming in fifth with a toss of 12.73m.
Christian Lewis' strong performance highlighted the afternoon for the GSU men. Lewis turned in a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 7.16m. Lawrence Lambert fisnihed just outside of the top 10 (6.68m).
Jahorous Turner wrapped up 10th place in the high jump with a height of 1.85m.
The 4x400m relay team of Malachi Johnson, Miciha Myles, Dakari Betts and Devin Malone helped the Tigers snatch eighth place with a time of 3:28.51.
In the men's 60m dash, CJ Guidry and Kimani Gardner worked their way into the semi finals. Guidry clocked in at 7.02 to qualify 17th while Gardner registered a 7.04 to grab the 20th spot. Both ran strong, but couldn't reach the finals.
Rainey Anderson and Anthony Davis reached the semifinals of the 60m hurdles, coming in 12th and 16th.

Grambling State travels to Lubbock, Texas to take part in the Texas Tech open from Jan 27-28.
