LUBBOCK, Texas | Solid performances by Ivory Davis and Christian Lewis highlighted Friday afternoons action in the Texas Tech Open for the Grambling State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams.
For the GSU women, Ivory Davis raced her way into the 60 meter hurdles semifinals, turning in a 13th place finish in the preliminaries (8.89). Although Davis wasn't able to start in the semis, her push in the prelims was a solid result.
Christian Lewis earned 10th place in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.09m. Lawrence Lambert followed him in 12th place (6.99m).Â
"This is the type of Meet we need to see in our program. We need to see high level competition. NCAA finalists and potential champions are here," said GSU head track and field coach Lamont Vaughn. "To become the type of program we need to be, we can't shy away from meets like these. We need to learn how to close the gap, and we can't do that by watching from afar."
The Tigers continue on in the Texas Tech Open for the final day of competition on Saturday. The action begins at 10 a.m.Â
