GRAMBLING, La. | Former Grambling State football standouts Henry Dyer and Jake Reed, alongside championship winning football coach Rod Broadway, have been named as finalists for the 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame Class.
Dyer was an All-American fullback for Grambling State. He was GSU's first documented 1,000-yard rusher and was named first-team All-SWAC from 1963-65. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1966 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
Reed was a star wide receiver for GSU from 1987-90. He was named All-SWAC second team in 1989 and earned first team honors following a 1990 season that saw him rack up 954 receiving yards. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in third round of the 1991 NFL Draft. While in the NFL, he was a force, putting together four 1000-yard receiving seasons.
Broadway roamed the sidelines as the head coach of Grambling State football from 2007-2010. While at Grambling State, he compiled a record of 35-12 with a 28-4 mark in conference play. In 2008 he led GSU to the 2008 Black College Football National Championship. He also won three SWAC West Division titles and a SWAC Championship. Upon his retirement from college football, he finished 125-45 with five Black College National Championships and six conference titles spanning the SWAC, CIAA and MEAC.
The Finalists were selected from a field of over 200 nominees by a 10-member Selection Committee composed of prominent journalists, commentators, historians, former NFL General Managers and football executives.
The Class of 2024 Inductees will be announced on Dec. 14, 2023, and will be honored during the Black College Football Hall of Fame Induction on June 8, 2024 in Atlanta, Ga.
