LAKE CHARLES, La. | The Grambling State University softball team dropped a midweek contest versus McNeese State on Wednesday evening, 8-0 in five innings at Cowgirl Diamond.
GSU (9-7) who entered the game riding a four-game winning streak, was only able to muster one hit against MSU (11-5) starter, Ashley Vallejo.
The Cowgirls, with two runners on base and two outs, got on the board first courtesy of a fielding error at shortstop that plated two unearned runs. MSU scored its third run on a stolen base by Alaysis Seneca, which allowed Jada Muñoz to score on the throw.
The Cowgirls tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Anaiyah Fultz got the Tigers into the hit column with a single to right field in the top the fifth. McNeese State needed the game with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Dacia Richard (2-2) got the start in the circle for Grambling State, working 3.0 innings and surrendering five runs, two earned, on five hits and a walk. Jordan Hodge pitched in relief, going 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.

Grambling State begins a stretch of eight consecutive home games commencing on Sunday, March 5 with a doubleheader versus Louisiana College. Game one begins a 1 p.m. at the GSU Softball Complex.
