GSU Softball Wins Sixth Consecutive Game, Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | The Grambling State University softball team swept Arkansas Pine-Bluff 10-1 and 12-6 in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.

Game 1

After Arkansas-Pine Bluff grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Grambling State (17-8-1 overall, 5-0 SWAC) ) responded in a big way with four runs in the third. Jayda Williams roped an RBI single to left field, plating GSU's first run of the day. 

With the bases loaded, Tytianna Robinson hit a bases clearing double, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-1 advantage. 

Grambling State dominated the rest of the way, scoring six runs over the next three innings to claim the run rule win. 

GSU starting pitcher Erin Gibbs (5-1) earned the win, tossing a complete game and delivering 10 strikeouts. She allowed one unearned run on nine hits.

Game 2

Grambling State got off to sluggish start in the second game of the day, quickly falling behind 5-1 in the second inning 

Trailing 5-2 in the top of the fourth, GSU found its rhythm. India Wells pulled the Lady Tigers within a run, 5-4, with a two-RBI double to left centerfield. Tytianna Robinson tied the game with an RBI single, right before a wild pitch brought the go ahead run into score, giving GSU a 6-5 lead. 

UAPB answered with a run in the bottom of the the frame to even things back up. 

After snatching a 7-6 advantage, Grambling State broke the game open in the top of the seventh, plating five runs

The Lady Tigers registered 11 hits as a team. Wells went 2-for-5 at the dish with two RBI. 

Erin Gibbs (6-1) earned her second win of the day on the mound, this time in a relief appearance, pitching 5.1 innings and striking out five batters.

UP NEXT
Grambling State looks to score its seventh consecutive victory on Sunday as it wraps up its weekend series at UAPB. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
