BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University track and field team had an impressive overall performance at the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University this weekend.
The men's 4x100m relay team made a strong appearance for Grambling State as they soared across the line clocking in at 41.57 to secure second place.
Senior Mathias Cheboi took the silver and notched a season best in the Men's 1500 with a time of 4:03.60.
Sophomores Mercy Kwambai, Ruth Kibet and Lillian Thou swept led the Tigers to a 2-3-4 finish in the Women's 1500m. Kwambai crossed the line with a seasons best of 5:09.09 , followed by Kibet with a time of 5:13.61 , and Thou took the fourth spot with 5:22.17.
Jamie Richardson cleared a personal best 1.73m to take second in the Women's high jump, while on the men's side, Jahorous Turner was fifth (1.85m).
Rainey Anderson came in at fourth in the men's 110m hurdles with a personal record of 14.60 while teammate Dakari Betts was fifth with 14.65.
Ivory Davis took third place in the women's 100m hurdles finishing at 14.29.
Miciah Myles came in at 1:56.03 to take eighth in the mens 800m.
Grambling men's long jump duo of Lawrence Lambert and Christian Lewis took second and third respectively. Lambert clinched second and personal best with a jump of 7.24m while Lewis snagged third with 6.93m. For the women, Marissa Tell took fifth in the womens triple jump clearing with 11.43m
The men's and women's javelin throwers both placed seventh in their events. Dante Montaque earned his top eight spot with 33.54 and Anaya Jones picked up her seventh place finish and a personal best with a throw of 23.69m.
Jordan Wyatt and Dior Nicholson placed in the top eight for their events. Wyatt represented GSU in the women's discus taking the seventh place spot with 38.04m and Nicholson placed clinched eighth in the women's shot put with 12.18m. Wyatt picked up a PR in the women's hammer throw with 37.09m. Terrance Bell just barely missed the top eight, placing ninth in the mens shot put with 13.49m.
In the women's 100m dash , Tykira Glasco clocked a 12.43 PR en route to her seventh-place finish. CJ Guidry came in at 21.69 for fifth-place in the men's 200-meter dash.
