Box Score LORMAN, Miss. | The Grambling State university baseball team dominated Alcorn State from start to finish, sailing to a series opening 17-0 victory in seven innings on Friday evening at McGown Stadium.
GSU starting pitcher Lorenzo Petersen (3-2) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters.
Grambling State's bats were equally as impressive as Peterson was on the mound, erupting for 13 hits. Kyle Walker was almost an automatic hit at the plate, as he went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI. Trevor Hatton drove in six runs, four of which came on a grand slam. He went 2-for-4 at the dish.
Keylon Mack also registered a multi-RBI game, driving in four runs and going 2-for-4 .
Grambling state (14-18 overall, 10-3 SWAC) quickly built a big lead, going up 6-0 at the end of the second inning. The Tigers broke the game open the fourth inning, plating nine runs. Hatton highlighted the inning with a grand slam to left centerfield to make it 15-0.
GSU scored its final two runs in the sixth inning.
Alcorn State starter Jermel Ford, was charged with the loss after giving up six runs on five hits, with three walks, in two innings of work.
The Braves fell to 5-25, 2-11 in the SWAC.
