GRAMBLING, La. | Trevor Hatton smacked a two-run home run for Grambling State, but it was one of the few bright sports for GSU as the Tigers fell 19-3 to Incarnate Word on Wednesday night at Wilbert Ellis Field.
Gambling State (16-19) could overcome errors and hot hitting by the Cardinals. GSU was outhit 17-7 and committed four error on the evening.
Hatton and Terry Burrell II drove in runs for the Tigers. Hatton went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Burrell went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
After a scoreless opening two innings, UIW plated five runs in the top of the third. GSU responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homer from Hatton to make it 5-2. The Cardinals broke the game 0open in the to of the fifth, scoring eight runs to grab a commanding 13-2 lead.
UIW didn't relent the rest of the way, controlling the contest the rest of the way.
Jacorey Boudreaux (1-4) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits in three innings of work. He struck out three and walked four.
