GSU Track & Field Takes on ULM War Hawk Classic

MONROE, La. | The Grambling State University track and field team had a strong performance at the Warhawk Classic hosted by ULM on Friday and Saturday at the Groseclose Track and Brown Stadium.

Friday's action began with Ruth Kibet, Mercy Kwambai, and Lillian Thuo running the women's 5000m and all three Tigers placing top eight. Kibet ranked fourth with a time of 19:18.34, Kwambai came immediately after taking the fifth spot clocking in at 19:35.15 and Thuo took eighth coming in at 20:30.91. Kibet also notched fifth in the women's 1500m with 4:57.97.

In the women's 100 meter dash, Kyla Blockett finished fifth with 12.36 and fellow Tiger Taykira Glasco followed behind in sixth place crossing the line at 12.38.

Amari Wrightsil represented in the women's 200m and had a second place podium finish with a time of 24.62.

Anaya Jones took eighth in the women's 100m hurdle with a time of 16.32.

The women throwers had three top eight finishes. Anaya Jones took sixth in the javelin with a mark of 22.79m. Jordan Wyatt notched eighth in the hammer throw with 37.49m and Dior Nicholson placed seventh in the discus landing at 39.85m.

Pearl Moss had a first place finish in the women's high jump with 1.65m. Serena Jimerson competed in the women's triple jump and took the sixth spot with a mark of 11.14m.

Four Tigers ran the men 110m with Dakari Betts winning first with a time of 14.13. Rainey Anderson gave GSU a 1-2 finish coming in second with 14.34. Anthony Davis picked up seventh posting a time of 15.73.

CJ Guidry won the gold in the men's 200m and registered a time of 21.09.

Malachi Johnson snagged second in the men's 400m crossing the line with 47.54.

Christian Lewis ran a 10.69 to secure third in the men 100m and Kimani Gardner took seventh with 10.98

Mathias Cheboi had a runner up finish in the men 800m after he clocked in at 1:47.00 and in the men's 3000m steeple finishing in 9:53.17. Miciah Myles clocked in at 2:01.31 in the men 800m to give him a seventh place finish.

Jahorous Turner took home fourth in the men high jump with a mark of 1.80m.

Lawrence Lambert had a first place finish in the men long jump with a leap of 7.09m. Christian Lewis came in third with 7.05m.
