GULFPORT, Miss. | The Grambling State University softball team suffered a 5-2 loss to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Western Division No. 1 seed Prairie View A&M on Wednesday evening, falling to the SWAC Tournament loser's bracket on Thursday night at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
GSU (32-21-1) scattered three hits the contest, with Kaytlyn Moore, Tytianna Robinson and Deija Russell accounting for the offense for the Tigers.
Prairie View A&M (27-18) carried a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning, but GSU attempted to mount a late rally, scoring a pair of runs in the closing frame to make it 5-2.
Sherrell Matthews (4-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts a d a two walks.
Jerrica Rojas (10-2) pitched seven innings for the Panthers, giving up two runs on three hits. She also struck out three and walked a pair.
