PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Grambling State University track and field team traveled to Texas for day one of the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Championships. The Tigers had a strong performance with two Tigers making podium including a first place finish for Mathias Cheboi.
The Kenya native, Mathias Cheboi captured first place in the men's 10,000m. Cheboi finished with an impressive time of 31:40.88.
Ruth Kibet represented on the podium for the women's 10000m. Kibet placed third , crossing the line in 41:39.76.Mercy Kwambai came immediately after taking the fourth spot clocking in at 42:37.32. Kibet (5:03.37) and Kwambai (5:11.14) both qualified for the women's 1500m.
CJ Guidry will be competing in the finals of the men's 200m after finishing the preliminary race with a time of 21.27.
In the women's Heptathlon Shot Put Anaya Jones finished fourth with 10.29m and notched a personal record.

- Mathias Cheboi- Men's 10000m- 31:40.88
- Anaya Jones-women's heptathalon shot put- 10.29m
- Anaya Jones-women heptathalon high jump- 1.46m
- Dante Montaque- men decathlon 100m- 11.56
- Anaya Jones- women heptathalon 200m- 27.58
- Imani McGee- women hammer throw- 1.46m
- Dante Montaque- men decathlon long jump- 5:37m
