GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University Department of Athletics has announced the addition of Ariel Owens to the staff as the new Director of Academic Services.
Owens comes to Grambling from Louisiana State University - Shreveport where she worked as the Assistant Director of Career Advising.
As the Assistant Director of Career Advising she spearheaded the Pilot Career Readiness Program where the focus was "meeting student-athletes where they are." She was also charged with hosting workshops, collaborating with departments for the bi-annual career fair, and meeting 1-on-1 with students to discuss their major and career goals. During her tenure at LSU Shreveport, Owens was the Faculty/Staff Advisor of the Black Students Association which would be recognized as the organization with outstanding growth from 2021-2022, nominated to serve on Staff Senate, and served as a board member for D.I.C.E (Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement).
Owens is no stranger to athletics as she was the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at LSU-Shreveport where she helped in leading the team to become conference champions in 2017. While in college, Owens participated on the Women's Basketball team and also became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
Owens is a native of Jonesboro, Louisiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences in 2015 from LSU-Shreveport and her Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration in 2018. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral of Educational Leadership at Concordia University-Irvine.
