GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team dropped its home opener 3-0 to the University of Louisiana at the GSU Soccer Complex on Thursday night.
The Tigers fell to 2-2-0 on the young season, while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 2-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first half, both teams locked in a goalless battle showcasing their defensive prowess.
- In the second half in the 52nd minutes, Louisiana's Sophie Placke broke the deadlock with a goal.
- In the 62nd minute, UL's Anneliese Switzer tacked on another goal top extend the lead to 2-0.
- Bailey Giddings, rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute growing the Ragin' Cajuns' lead to 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State attempted four shots but could not put anything on the frame.
- University of Louisiana took eight shots, placing seven on goal
- GSU committed 13 fouls while UL was whistled for five
- Both teams were called offsides twice.
- Madison Covey-Taylor and Aimee Benton split time in goal for GSU with Covey-Taylor handling 79 minutes and Benton working for 17 minutes of action.
