GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University is pleased to announce LaToya Howell as the new Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the program.
Howell, who served as Assistant Coach at Trinity Valley Community College from 2014 to 2019, was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Assistant Coach of the Year for Junior College in 2019. Her tenure saw impressive achievements, including five consecutive Region XIV Conference Championships (2014-2018) and six consecutive NJCAA Final Four appearances (2014-2019).
Prior to her stop in Athens, Howell served as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State (2013-2014), University of Texas Pan American (2011-2013) and Loyola University Chicago (2009-2011).
Previously, Howell excelled as Assistant Coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce from 2006 to 2007, boasting a three-year record of 65-29. During this time, she led the team to an NCAA Elite Eight National Tournament and secured various conference championships.
Beyond coaching, Howell's distinguished playing career began at the United States Air Force Academy from 2001 to 2003, where she was named Team Captain and earned accolades such as Team Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player. She continued her collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2003 to 2006, again serving as Team Captain and garnering honors including Defensive Player of the Year.
