Tigers Have No Answer for No. 2 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  | It was tough going for the Grambling State University baseball team on Tuesday afternoon, as the Tigers suffered a 21-1 defeat at the hands No. 2 Arkansas
 
GSU (1-7) struggled to get much offense going on a day, scattering four hits over seven innings. Arkansas (6-2) exploded for 20 hits, including a pair of grand slams.
 
Ashton Inman led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of base hits. LaMarcus Jones and Aries Gardner both went 1-for-1. Gardner's hit was a double down the left field line in seventh inning.
 
Carlos Peguero (0-2) got the start on the mound for Grambling State. He gave up seven runs on five hits. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the bottom of the first inning and leading 2-0 with the bases loaded, Arkansas' Hudson Polk hit a grand slam over the centerfield wall, stretching the Razorbacks' lead to 6-0. UA led 7-0 heading into the second frame. 
  • Brett Washington entered the game in a relief of Peguero in the second frame, holding Arkansas scoreless. 
  • The Razorbacks hit their second homer of the game in the third inning when Jayson Jones hit a 2-run homer to left field to make it 9-0.
  • With Arkansas in front 14-0, Jones smacked his second homer of the day, this time a grand slam to put the Tigers in a 18-0 hole.
  • Grambling State cracked the scoreboard in the seventh inning following an RBI single by LaMarcus Jones
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
  • Grambling State finished with one run on four hits. The Tigers left three runners on base.
  • Arkansas plated 21 runs on 20 hits. They left nine runners stranded.
  • Colin Fisher (1-0) got the win for the Razorbacks working 1.0 innings, giving up no runs and striking out one batter.
