GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University softball team earned a 2-0 win in Saturday's series opener versus Texas Southern but fell in 13-0 and 6-3 in the final two games of the weekend.
GSU closed the weekend with an overall record of 13-24 and a SWAC record of 5-12, while TSU improved to 14-14 and 6-6 in the SWAC.
In the first game,
Dacia Richard tossed a gem, earning a complete game shutout. She delivered five strikeouts and allowed six hits.
The freshman tandem of Kameryn Broussard and
Tavia Leadon lifted the Lady Tigers to victory at the plate. Broussard's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and Leadon's RBI single later in the inning was enough to propel Grambling State to the win.
In game two, TSU put on a offensive clinic, racking up 13 runs on 16 hits. GSU, on the other hand, struggled offensively, only managing one hit in the loss.
In the final game of the series, Grambling State fell behind 6-0 through the first four innings, but managed to cut Texas Southern's lead in half with the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a three-run homer by Khali Malone.
GSU was outhit 12-4 in the loss.

Grambling State travels to Monroe, La. for. midweek battle versus Louisiana-Monroe. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the ULM Softball Complex.
