GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team dominated the first two games of its weekend home series with Alcorn State, cruising to a 28-3 victory in game one and an 18-2 victory in game two.
The first game was a continuation of a previously game that was suspended by rain on March 17.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
The first game of the day began when Grambling State holding a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. That lead quickly grew to 13-0 in the opening frame.
GSU was up 21-0 before Alcorn State cracked the score column in the sixth inning.
The Tigers outhit the Braves 22-2. 15 different batters registered hits for GSU.
Grambling State's pitching staff had a combined no hitter going until a sharply hit grounder skipped just past second baseman
Kyle Walker.
Charles Jackson (1-0) notched his first win of the season on the mound after pitching 4.0 innings. He struck out three batters and surrendered no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
Kyle Walker paced Grambling State offensively in the nightcap. The sophomore hit for the cycle, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.
The Grambling State bats got cranking early once again in the nightcap. Bufford got GSU on the board quickly with an RBI single in the first inning.
Chris Marcellus followed that up in the second inning with a solo homer smacked high over the left centerfield wall to make it 2-0 Tigers. Later in the innings,
Kyle Walker stretched the lead to 3-0 with an RBI triple to left center.
Julian Murphy's RBI single to left drove in another run and then an errant throw brough
Ashton Inman across the plate, giving GSU a 5-0 cushion.
Jaylyn Bennett inflicted more punishment on the Braves with an RBI single laced into left field to give Grambling State a commanding 7-0 lead in the second inning.
The Tigers pushed its lead to double-digits, 11-1, in the fourth inning when
Jose Vargas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Walker closed the game in grand fashion with a mammoth two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving GSU an 18-2 lead.
Mason Martinez (7-1) was solid on the mound. He struck out nine batters in 7.0 innings of work and surrendered two runs on seven hits.

Grambling State returns to action on Sunday when the Tigers wraps up its weekend series versus Alcorn State with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wilbert Ellis Field.
