BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University women's 4x400 team highlighted a strong day for the GSU men's and women's track & field on Saturday afternoon at the LSU Alumni Gold meet.
The 4x400 team of
Kayla Ford,
Ivory Davis,
Amari Wrightsil and
Shatara Johnson secured fourth place just behind Northwestern State, Minnesota and New Mexico State with a season-best time of 3:43.41. That time beat out two other power five programs who finished inside the top ten, Vanderbilt and LSU.
GSU registered eight total top ten finishes on the day.
James Brown came in fourth place in the men's long jump with a personal record of 7.60m.
Lawrence Lambert landed in ninth with a jump of 7.42m.
In the women's long jump,
Shatara Johnson clinched fifth with a leap of 5.77m. Teammate
Daylece Newsome nabbed eighth with a career-best 5.69m.
Jaime Richardson continued to be strong in the women's high jump, coming in fifth place with a mark of 1.75m.
Marissa Tell was also impressive in the women's triple jump with a distance of 12.04m.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Amari Gatewood-Petereson secured 10
th place with a time of 56.12.
