BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) recognized three Grambling State University women's soccer standouts on Tuesday for their exceptional performances over the weekend.
Alana Aiken was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week,
Taya Sands earned both Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, and Kaia Back collected Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Aiken earned her recognition after scoring the game-tying goal in a 2–2 draw against Alabama A&M.
She continued her strong play against Alabama State, opening the scoring in Grambling State's 5–0 victory and adding an assist to extend the Tigers lead to 4–0.
Sands anchored the Grambling defense with 180 minutes of dominant play, helping the Tigers post a shutout against Alabama State while holding the Bulldogs to just five total shots on goal over the weekend.
She also contributed offensively with a highlight free kick goal to open the scoring against Alabama A&M.
Bace was a steady force in goal, combining for five saves across the weekend to help the Tigers secure a win and a draw in conference action.
