RIVERSIDE, Calif. | Grambling State fell behind early and couldn't recover Friday night, dropping a 72-59 road decision to California Baptist at the Fowler Events Center in Riverside, Calif. The loss moves the Tigers to 3-3 on the season.

CBU (5-0) came out hot, shooting 71 percent in the first half and building a 40–22 halftime lead. Grambling State struggled to match that pace, hitting just 7-of-27 from the field before the break. The Tigers responded well in the second half, shooting 56 percent and outscoring the Lancers 37–32, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Derrius Ward led Grambling State with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a pair of threes and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. Antonio Munoz added 12 points and six rebounds, while Roderick Coffee III finished with nine.

GSU forced 18 turnovers and turned them into 22 points, helping fuel the second-half push. But CBU's efficiency around the rim carried the night, as the Lancers scored 42 points in the paint and shot 59 percent overall. Martel Williams paced CBU with 17 points, while Jonathan Griman added 10 off the bench.

Jimel Lane pulled down seven rebounds for the Tigers, who finished a strong 21-for-23 at the free-throw line.
