GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State suffered a 102-62 loss to 16
th ranked Iowa State on at Hilton Coliseum on Thursday night.
GSU freshman forward,
Antonio Munoz had a strong performance for the G-Men. The Chicago, Ill. native scored a team-high 16 points and seven assists. He added four rebounds to his tally.
As a team, Grambling State (1-1) shot 42.9 percent from the field (21-of-49), including going 4-of-12 from behind the arc.
After Iowa State (2-0) built an 14-6 lead early in the opening period, GSU found a rhythm, using a 11-2 run to push ahead 17-16 with just under 10 minutes on the clock. The Cyclones responded with a 11-2 run of their own to take a 27-19 advantage with 6:53 to go until halftime.
The G-Men trailed 44-30 at halftime.
Iowa State flexed its muscle in the second half, creating an insurmountable deficit for the Tigers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State shot 42.9 percent from the field 21-of-49), and 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from three-point range. GSU was 16-of-23 at the free throw line (69.6 percent).
- Grambling State grabbed 25 rebounds.
- GSU committed 19 turnovers.
- The Tigers scored 27 bench points, 26 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, six second chance points and two fastbreak points.
- Iowa State shot 54.5 percent from the floor (36-of-66) and 38.7 percent from behind the arc (12-of-31). ISU was 18-of-29 at the charity stripe (62.1 percent)
- The Cyclones pulled down 43 rebounds.
- Iowa State committed 12 turnovers.
- ISU finished with 46 points in the paint, 42 bench points, 19 points off turnovers, 17 second chance points and 16 fastbreak points.
- Joshua Jefferson led ISU with 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting, with eight rebounds, three assists and a block.
