GSU Completes First Day of SWAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Grambling State University men's and women's track & field teams delivered strong performances at the 2024 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, with several athletes achieving personal and seasonal bests.

In the women's long jump, Shamaya Joiner secured eighth place with a season-best mark of 5.71m.

Kayla Ford had a standout showing in the women's 400m prelims, qualifying for the finals with a season-best time of 56.52. She also competed in the women's 200m prelims, finishing 14th with a time of 25.04.

On the men's side, Elijah Simmons clocked 6.95 in the men's 60m prelims, finishing 16th overall, while CJ Guidry placed 22nd with a season-best 7.02.
Dakari Betts competed in the men's 60m hurdles prelims, finishing 10th with a time of 8.21.

In the field events, Anaya Jones excelled in the women's indoor pentathlon shot put, claiming first place with a throw of 10.38m. 
Jalen Peel represented Grambling State in the men's shot put, finishing ninth with a mark of 14.23m.

Grambling State will continue competition in the 2024 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 23 in Birmingham, Ala.
