JACKSON, MS | Grambling State fought hard but fell short against Jackson State in a 5-1 loss at the JSU Softball Complex on Sunday morning.
Grambling State (5-6) struggled to counter Jackson State's (10-2) offensive attack.
Jackson State took an early lead in the second inning when an error allowed Jace Jackson to score.
JSU added another run in the third after Ka'Liyah Gipson crossed the plate on a fielder's choice. Jackson State extended its lead in the fourth inning when Courtney Little doubled to bring in a run, followed by another score on a passed ball, making it 4-0.
Grambling State finally broke through in the fifth inning when
Cadashia Collins delivered an RBI single to left field, driving in
Kayliana Cash.
Offensively, the Tigers were limited to just two hits, one each from Collins and
Kamryn Broussard.
However, Jackson State responded in the sixth with an RBI single from Meah Almaraz, restoring their four-run cushion.
Hodge pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and five runs only four of which were earned while striking out one batter.

Grambling State will head to Youngsville, Louisiana, to compete in the Mardi Gras Classic, where they will face Army on Friday, February 28, at 2 p.m.
