FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. | The Grambling State University baseball team suffered a 14-3 loss to No. 4 Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon at Baum-Walker Field.
GSU (4-4) scattered four hits over seven innings in the loss.
Martavius Thomas,
Trey Bridges,
Aries Gardner and
Keanu Jacobs-Guishard picked up hits for the Tigers, with Thomas grabbing the only extra base hit with an RBI-double in the fifth inning.
Starting pitcher
Nick Robinson (0-1) was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs on one hit and three walks in one inning of work. In total, six pitchers saw action for the Tigers.
After Arkansas (7-1) plated two runs in the opening inning, Grambling State got on the board in the top of the second. After
Chenar Brown got on base via a walk, he moved into scoring position after stealing second. After advancing the third on a groundout, Brown came around around to score on an RBI-single by
Aries Gardner.
The Razorbacks resumed the scoring in the third inning. After Arkansas got its first two runners on base, Rocco Peppi drove in a run on a base-hit. A sacrifice fly by Ryder Helfrick made it a 4-1 game in favor of UA.
Trailing 7-1 in the fifth, Thomas shot an RBI double down the left field line scoring GSU's second run of the contest. The Razorbacks put the game out of reach with six runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 13-2 lead.
Arkansas racked up 14 runs on 14 hits.
