BIRMINGHAM, Ala.| The Grambling State University track & field team wrapped up action on Friday in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Vulcan Invite, posting several strong results in the field events and women's pentathlon.
Marissa Tell highlighted the day with a win in the women's triple jump. Her jump of 11.77m secured the top spot on the podium and was ahead of Southern's Azariah Foster who came in second place (11.64m).
Anaya Jones was a force in the women's pentathlon, posting several top 8 finishes. Her strongest result came in the shot put where she placed fourth with a toss of 9.75m. She snagged sixth in the high jump (1.41m), seventh in the pentathlon 60m hurdles (9.87) and ninth in the pentathlon long jump (4.28m).
Ciera Smith also competed in the women's pentathlon, grabbing seventh in the high jump (1.38m), ninth in the long jump (4.28m), ninth in the 60m hurdles (10.55) and tenth in the shot put (5.80m).
Ike Jenkins had a one of the best performances of the day for the GSU men in the long jump, finishing fourth with a leap of 6.77m.
Marcus Kennedy also secured fourth place in the men's high jump (2.01m).
In the women's long jump,
Angel Sanders wrapped up ninth place (5.35m).

Grambling State returns the track on Saturday morning when it competes in the UAB Green & Gold Invite. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
