Box Score GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State defeated Alcorn State in a commanding 12-4 victory at the GSU Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.
The Tigers wasted no time, jumping out to a five-run lead in the first inning and never looking back.
Grambling State (9-16, 2-4 SWAC) tallied eight hits while capitalizing on defensive miscues by Alcorn.
Zoe Roland led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Kaytlyn Moore also had a strong performance, recording two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Kamryn Broussard added a home run and two RBIs, while
Tavia Leadon,
Cadashia Collins, and
Ahsunte' Specks each drove in a run.
On the mound,
Audrey Richardson (3-2) was dominant, tossing a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out two across five innings.
She held Alcorn (6-15, 2-7 SWAC) hitless through the first four frames before surrendering a three-run homer in the fifth.
The Tigers set the tone early, with Roland's RBI bunt single sparking a five-run first inning.
Grambling State continued to pressure Alcorn State's pitching staff, adding runs in every frame. Broussard's two-run homer in the third pushed the lead to double digits, and
Ahsunte' Specks RBI double in the fourth helped seal the win.
