Grambling State Softball Loses Doubleheader to Prairie View A&M

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State battled hard but came up short in both games of a SWAC doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on Friday at the GSU Softball Complex.

The Tigers fell 4-0 in the opener before dropping an 8-3 decision in the second game.

In the first game, Grambling State (5-12, 0-1 SWAC) struggled to generate offense against Prairie View's Brielle Moreno, who tossed a complete-game shutout.

The Tigers managed only three hits in the contest, with Kaytlyn Moore, Cheyanne Sales, and Katelynn Walls each recording a base knock.

Defensively, Grambling State held Prairie View (7-10, 1-0 SWAC) in check early, allowing only one run through five innings. However, the Panthers capitalized on late-inning opportunities, plating two runs in the sixth and adding an insurance run in the seventh to secure the 4-0 win.

Erin Gibbs pitched well in the loss, throwing seven innings while allowing seven hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts.

In the second game, Grambling State (5-13, 0-2 SWAC) showed more offensive life but could not overcome an early deficit. Prairie View (8-10, 2-0 SWAC ) jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues.

The Tigers responded in the third, as Kamryn Broussard delivered an RBI double to center field, followed by a Cheyanne Sales double that brought in another run to cut the deficit to 4-2.

After Prairie View extended its lead to 7-2 in the fifth, Grambling State scratched across one more run in the bottom half of the inning but could not rally further.

UP NEXT

Grambling State will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 8, as the Tigers face Prairie View A&M again at the GSU Softball Complex in another Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup in Grambling, Louisiana.
