Prairie View, Texas | Grambling State University's women's tennis team continued Southwestern Athletic Conference play on the road Monday morning, falling 4-0 to Prairie View A&M at the PVAMU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Tigers, are now 2-8 overall and 2-5 in SWAC play. The Lady Panthers, improved to 5-23 overall and 5-4 in conference action.
Doubles play kicked off with energy as
Ekaterina Dziova and
Jovana Latinovich were locked in a close battle at No. 1 doubles before their match was left unfinished with Prairie View leading 4-3.
On court two,
Takudzwa Mawisire and
Sofija Rajic fell 6-4 to Andrea Blanca and Daniela Garcia, while
Emmory Simmons and
Claire Machisa dropped their No. 3 doubles match 6-2.
Latinovich's match at No. 2 was ruled a win by opponent retirement, but under team scoring rules, no individual point was awarded
Mawisire dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles, and Rajic came up short in a 6-2, 6-4 match at the No. 4 slot.
Several matches went unfinished, including Dziova's No. 1 singles matchup, where she was beginning to gain ground in the second set before the overall result was clinched.
UP NEXT
Grambling State now turns its attention to a non-conference matchup on the road, traveling to Hammond, Louisiana, to face Southeastern Louisiana University. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
