In doubles, Grambling State's pairings worked to find rhythm early but couldn't overcome Southern's early momentum.
Ekaterina Dziova and
Jovana Latinovich dropped a 6-2 decision to Jessica Hess and Tshegofatso Tsiang at the No. 1 position. On court two,
Takudzwa Mawisire and
Sofija Rajic also fell 6-2 to Baluck Deang and Shahd Habib.
The most closely contested doubles match came at the No. 3 slot, where
Emmory Simmons and
Claire Machisa battled but ultimately fell 5-3 to Trinyty Turner and LaTesha Grant.
In singles play, Dziova opened at the top spot against Paris Washington but was overpowered in a 6-2, 6-1 loss.
Mawisire also faced a tough challenge at No. 3, dropping her match in straight sets to Tsiang. At No. 6 singles, Machisa fell 6-1, 6-1 to Grant.
Several matches went unfinished due to Southern clinching the team win early, including Latinovich's match at No. 2, which was shaping up for a potential third-set battle.
