LORMAN, Miss. | Grambling State opened its SWAC road series with a statement win, powering past Alcorn State 10-4 on Friday afternoon at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
The Lady Tigers (13-18, 6-6 SWAC) erupted for 12 hits, scoring in four of seven innings, and were led by
Cadashia Collins, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.
Ahsunte' Specks added two hits and two RBIs, while
Z'Natria Evans and
Deija Russell each contributed with key RBI singles.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Grambling responded immediately, plating two runs in both the second and third innings.
Collins two-run homer in the third put the Tigers in front for good. Grambling pulled away in the sixth with four more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Collins and a defensive miscue by Alcorn that allowed two more to cross.
Erin Gibbs (5-6) went the distance in the circle, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out two with no walks across seven innings.

Grambling State returns to action on Saturday, April 12 with a doubleheader against Alcorn State at the Alcorn Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., with game two to follow shortly after.
