BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Grambling State University women's tennis team is set to compete in the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Tennis Tournament as the No. 8 seed, marking the program's first tournament appearance since 2020.

The Tigers will open tournament action against No. 1 seed Jackson State on Friday, April 18, at 9 a.m. CST at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.

Grambling State secured its spot in the postseason with a 2-7 record in SWAC play and a 3-11 overall mark. 

The Tigers showed grit throughout the season, earning one road win and a pair of neutral-site victories while battling through a competitive conference slate.

The tournament field features the league's top eight teams. Jackson State (8-1) earned the No. 1 seed after tying with Alabama State (8-1) for the regular season title. Alabama State claimed the No. 2 seed via tiebreaker. 

Florida A&M enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 7-2 mark, followed closely by No. 4 Alabama A&M, also at 7-2. Prairie View A&M (5-4) and Southern (4-5) secured the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, while Alcorn State (3-6) will enter as the No. 7 seed.

The 2025 SWAC Women's Tennis Tournament runs from April 18-20, with quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday, and the championship match set for Sunday, April 20.
