BATON ROUGE, La. | Grambling State University's track and field team delivered impressive performances at the 2025 LSU Alumni Gold Meet this past weekend, with athletes setting new benchmarks against elite collegiate competition.

On the track, the sprint corps demonstrated their growing depth. Sophomore Savantez Phillips led the way in the 100 meters with a time of 10.89 seconds, closely followed by junior CJ Guidry at 10.93.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Justin Greenwood, Elijah Simmons, Guidry and Quincy Chery turned heads with their season-best 3:12.10 performance that now ranks 18th among HBCU programs this season

The hurdles events produced one of Grambling's brightest moments as Quincy Chery blazed to a personal best 51.51 in the 400 meter hurdles. This remarkable time currently stands as the seventh-fastest in HBCU competition and 74th in NCAA Division I this outdoor season.

In field events, Shatara Johnson led the charge with a third-place finish in the long jump, reaching 5.82 meters.

She was joined in strong performances by teammates Shamya Joiner (5.50m) and Angel Sanders (5.34m), giving Grambling three of the top 15 finishers in the event.

The women's 4x100 meter relay squad of Journee Mayfield, Johnson, Kayla Ford and Kyla Blockett clocked 46.07 seconds to move to 12th in the HBCU rankings.
