BATON ROUGE, La. | Grambling State saw its two-game win streak snapped on Thursday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Southern University in the final game of a three-game SWAC series at Lady Jaguar Field.
The Lady Tigers were held scoreless despite multiple scoring chances and dropped the finale after winning the first two games of the series yesterday.
With the loss, Grambling State moves to 17-28 overall and 10-14 in SWAC play, while Southern improves to 21-22 overall and 12-11 in the conference, avoiding a sweep on its home field.
Southern got on the board early, scoring twice in the first inning off four quick hits against Grambling starter
Audrey Richardson.
The Jaguars added one more in the second after
Chloe Wilson entered in relief, taking a 3-0 lead they would protect the rest of the way.
Richardson (7-9) was tagged with the loss after a short one-inning outing, while Wilson settled in to deliver five effective innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run while walking one.
Offensively, Grambling State totaled four hits but struggled to convert opportunities into runs.
The Tigers drew six walks and left ten runners on base, including multiple scoring threats in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Katelynn Walls and
Kamryn Broussard continued to set the table at the top of the order. Walls reached base twice with a single, while Broussard went 1-for-3 with a walk and reached base in her final two plate appearances.
Cadashia Collins singled and drew a walk, and
Christalyn Higgins added a bunt single in the fifth.
Tavia Leadon also reached base twice via walks.
Defensively, Grambling committed just one error and played solid infield defense behind Wilson, stranding five Southern runners over the final five innings.
