JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Grambling State sophomore
Savantez Phillips wrapped up his outdoor season Wednesday at the NCAA East First Round, clocking a 14.63 in the men's 110-meter hurdles at Hodges Stadium. Running in heat five, Phillips placed 45th overall and did not advance, but gained valuable experience in his NCAA postseason debut.
On Thursday, junior Quincy Chery advanced to the quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.04 seconds. Competing in heat two, Chery finished fourth and just missed the automatic qualifying mark, but his time ranked 20th overall — enough to earn one of the final at-large spots.
Chery returns to the track Friday evening with a chance to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
